Captain Spiffy Staff

Clayton Colby Richard is an American former professional baseball pitcher turned business owner. He played Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, and Toronto Blue Jays. 

Clayton grew up in Lafayette, IN attending McCutcheon High School. He graduated as a Valedictorian in 2003. He also earned Mr. Baseball and Mr. Football his senior year.

After his professional pitching career, he and Tyson started up Captain Spiffy out of his garage in lieu of COVID. Clayton then took on the baseball head coaching job at Lafayette Jefferson High School. The rest is history! 

Clayton resides in Lafayette, Indiana with his wife, Ashley, and his three children: Cashton, Cannon, and Kile. 

Tyson acts as the CEO at Captain Spiffy. He runs logistics & shipping, day-day operations, carts/parts/trailer purchasing, wholesale & retail sales, digital & social media marketing, website marketing, customer outreach, and accounting. Tyson and Clayton founded the business back in 2020 during COVID and have since grown it exponentially with the help of the team! 

Tyson grew up in Lafayette, IN and attended McCutcheon High School where he captained the baseball team and participated on the basketball team. Away from athletics, he graduated McCutcheon as Valedictorian and National Honor Society President. He was a collegiate student-athlete who spent time at Purdue University, Wabash Valley College, and the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH). Tyson graduated Summa Cum Laude (4.0) with a degree in Business Administration from UNOH in 2021 and captained the baseball team during his tenure there. 

Tyson now resides in Lafayette, Indiana with his wife, Averi. Aside from work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, AND watching PURDUE basketball! 

Preston joined the Captain Spiffy team in 2022 and has helped bolster the ultimate customer experience. He now acts as the shop/service manager for both locations & has grown our service team from 1 techs to 5 techs! 

Preston is a devout Christian, happily married, and proud father to a large, loving family. Born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana, hehas a strong academic foundation, having earned an associate degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue University. He also holds both an associate and a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Indiana University.

In addition to his academic achievements, Preston has a background in audio and electronic customization, which complements his diverse skill set. His commitment to family, faith, and continuous learning defines both his personal and professional life.

Chris onboarded with Captain Spiffy in February 2021 and has served in multiple roles within the business. He can service, sell, and market all golf carts! To date, he provides oversight in our in our service and parts department. He has also played a role in propeling our trailer sales division of the business!

Born and raised in Lafayette, IN, he is the proud owner of a Bernedoodle named Bear, who happens to be the unofficial shop mascot at Captain Spiffy! When away from Spiffy, Chris enjoys watching sports and spending quality time with my family and girlfriend, Lauren. 

He, and the rest of the team, have been on a mission to become the #1 golf cart and trailer dealership in the nation. Focused on delivering exceptional customer satisfaction, he has helped the business expand to a larger location! Chris noted that it has been an amazing journey and is proud to be a contributing factor in Captain Spiffy's growth.  

Jacob recently joined the Captain Spiffy team full-time in 2024, specializing in trailer sales. He is now operating as our trailer & cart sales manager in Lafayette!

He was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana, and developed a deep love for sports from a young age. That passion blossomed into a collegiate baseball and professional career. Known for excellent team building skills and chemistry, he made his mark on the field before transitioning into life after baseball. As a dedicated family man, he values time spent with loved ones and applies the same commitment and discipline to his family life. Today, he continues to stay connected to the sport and community, while balancing his passion for baseball with his love for trailers and premium golf carts.

Barb joined the Captain Spiffy staff as the Office Manager in the fall of 2023 after retiring from State Farm. She was born and raised in Lafayette, IN. 

She currently resides in Lafayette with her husband, Troy, and her dog, Raider. Barb raised two children - Mason and Karsyn. She enjoys boating and spending time with family while away from Captain Spiffy. 

Brian works specifically in golf cart sales & marketing. He has done a great job helping advance our retail sales department! He now acts as a sales & marketing rep out of our Carmel location!

Brian is from Lafayette, IN and graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 2019. He attended Olivet Nazarene University and received a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Sport Management with a minor in business. Brian also participated on the ONU football team as a wide receiver all four years!

Timothy recently joined the staff in October 2024. He graduated Tri County Jr-Sr High School in 2024. 

Timothy specializes in servicing golf carts. He is passionate about helping customers get the most of their golf carts and is eager to share his knowledge and advice about maintenance and repairs. His mission is to keep rides running smoothly and looking their absolute best!
